Welcome back! Here’s this weeks social media news updates.
Facebook devalues third party automatic sharing
Facebook recently announce a major change to its News Feed Algorithm. Stories shared from third parties will receive lower ranking in the News Feed. It has been found that when a user posts content to the News Feed through a third party or an app it receives more activity than a post automatically generated via a third party. For example, when listening to Spotify the playlist automatically posts to your news feed receiving less ranking than a song being manually shared via Spotify to Facebook. In many cases it has been found that automatic posts from third parties will be marked as spam and that users feel confused about stories that are shared without their knowledge of actually sharing the content on their own. Penalizing automatic third party posts will allow for users to only see content that is interesting and relevant to them. Source
